First, mechanically brush away all organic dust and debris under lukewarm running water, or process the tools in an ultrasonic cleaner. Thoroughly dry the metal implements before spraying or immersing them in a hospital-grade surface/device disinfectant (such as CrystalSept) for the manufacturer-specified contact time (typically 1 to 1.5 minutes). Rinse completely with running water, dry thoroughly, and store in a sterile bit holder. Never allow water or chemical disinfectant to air-dry on metal instruments, and never spray disinfectant directly into an e-file handpiece motor.

Carbide bits feature precision-fluted cutting blades designed for rapid, low-vibration debulking, thinning, and product removal on artificial enhancements (acrylic, acrylgel, and hard builder gel) without overheating. Diamond-dusted bits feature uniform micro-abrasive coats suited for delicate dry/Russian manicures, gently lifting cuticles, exfoliating lateral nail folds, and smoothing periungual skin without damaging the natural nail plate.

Cross-cut and specialized refill bits (such as the Easy Refill bit) feature bi-directional cutting grooves designed to operate smoothly in both forward and reverse rotations, accommodating both left-handed and right-handed technicians. Directional spiral-fluted carbide bits (such as standard Carbide Ball bits) are engineered specifically for clockwise, single-direction rotation and are calibrated for right-handed salon use.

Disposable grit files and buffer blocks are single-use consumables per client unless using fully disinfectable, plastic-core synthetic abrasives that can withstand chemical submersion. Solid tungsten-carbide and diamond e-file bits should be cleaned, brushed with a dedicated brass bit cleaner, and sterilized between every client appointment. Replace bits when the abrasive diamond grit smooths or when carbide flutes dull, typically after 2 to 3 months of heavy daily salon use.
