How to work with the New Pantone Colour of the Year 'Greenery'
2017… Ready, Set, GO!
When everyone is so focused on the christmas season, the thought of 2017 seems so much further than a mere few weeks away. As with most salons/ technicians, things start to quieten in January. This is the perfect time to make sure you are up to speed with whats hot for the year ahead.
Pantone has released it’s 2017 colour of the year, 'Greenery' and describes it as “bringing forth a refreshing take, a tangy yellow-green that speaks to our need to explore, experiment and reinvent. Illustrative of flourishing foliage, the fertile attributes of Greenery signals one to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate”. Now if that doesn’t scream new year, what does?
Green is nature’s neutral and ‘Greenery’ is proving to be a versatile, trans-seasonal shade that can be part of so many colour combinations. Pair it with neutrals, brights, deeper shades, pastels or metallics and it will work….. Did you know the human eye is more sensitive to green frequencies than any other colour, therefore can distinguish more shades of green than any other colour?
And did you also know that Pantone actually has a top 10 colours for Spring? It shows Spring 2017 will be filled with bright and vivid colours as well as those that give a sense of earthiness. The top 10 colours for spring 2017 seem to be reflective of nature, with names such as “Niagara”, “Primrose Yellow”, “Island Paradise” “Kale” and “Hazelnut”.
Leatrice Eiseman, Director of the Pantone Color Institute says "One of the things that [pantone] saw this year, was a renewed sense of imagination in which colour was appearing in context that was different than the traditional. Reminiscent of the hues that surround us in nature, our Spring 2017 Fashion Colour Report evokes a spectrum of emotion and feeling”.
